About The Stacks

The Stacks is an independent editorial project. We publish hands-on guides to the software and services a small business actually runs on — one guide per job, from forming the company to shipping the orders. We are not any of the tools we review, and we don’t sell the services ourselves; we point you to them and explain what each is for.

How the guides are built

Each guide starts from a broad shortlist and we open every tool’s live site by hand, dropping name-collisions and products that turn out to be something else. What’s left is grouped by the decision you’re making. Where a site blocks an automated check we say so on the card rather than guess.

How we make money

The outbound links in the guides are affiliate links: if you sign up with a tool after clicking through, we earn a commission. Every tool we cover runs an affiliate programme — that is the pool we work from — but which ones we include, and how we group and rank them, is our editorial call, and the commission never changes it. Every affiliate link is marked nofollow sponsored.
